We have some exciting healthcare happenings right here in the Greater Kansas City area.  We are kicking off 2017 by bringing together a collection of local speakers and industry visionaries to share what is happening right here in the Heart of America.

Dr. Susan Abdel-Rahman, PharmD. Professor of Pediatrics and Chief of the Section of Therapeutic Innovation at Children’s Mercy Hospital.  Dr. Abdel-Rahman will share her experience in developing EHR-embedded clinical decision support software that provides guidance and research data for pediatric Bone Marrow Cancer Patients.  She will share the 4 year journey describing the challenges of building and delivering an application and traversing the large intra-institutional landscape.

 

David Chou, CIO & CDO, Children’s Mercy Hospital - As healthcare adopts new business models and responds to new competitive and market forces, technology leaders must adapt by developing a set of powerful new skills, mindsets and work styles that help both themselves and their organizations nurture a more digital sensibility. 

In this presentation, David Chou, VP, CIO and chief digital officer (CDO) at Children’s Mercy Hospital, a 301-bed pediatric facility and teaching hospital, will discuss the technology requirements to support a digital future and fundamental principles required for a consumer driven healthcare.

 

Martie Ross, Principal, PYA - Martie’s expert insights draw upon a two-decade career as a practicing healthcare transactional and regulatory attorney, and a trusted business advisor specializing in new payment and delivery systems and public payer initiatives.  She is an oft-in-demand speaker and industry thought leader.  Martie will provide insights and define the key “knowns” and “unknowns” of the future of the ACA and help lend clarity to this current state of flux and potential impacts.

 

Andrea Hall, Director of Clinical Informatics, Shawnee Mission Medical Center.  Andrea will provide state, federal, legislative and regulatory updates as related to healthcare.

 

Dennis Ridenour, President, BioKansas - Connecting the bioscience community to encourage and enable the successful attraction, creation, commercialization, and growth of bioscience technologies, products, and services in Kansas.

 

Aaron Deacon, Managing Director, KC Digital Drive –Kansas City launched its smart city initiative, a collaboration with Cisco, Sprint and Think Big Partners. Aaron will share updates on how the smart city/connected health applications can potentially improve health outcomes within a geographically-defined neighborhood or campus.  There are a number of local and national efforts underway which make this an opportune time for discussion and brainstorming.
